Meet Alfunz!
A local architect, looking to give back to a children's hospital, created the town of Laugh-A-Lot, giving each patient room a different house complete with their own mailbox! Each room also features the special Laugh-A-Lot clock. Of course, the town of Laugh-A-Lot would not be complete without the different street names for the hallways and the Alderbarker Tree.
Alfunz, the mascot of Sanford Children's, lives under this iconic tree. Alfunz was born in the mountains. His mother is a Pika and his father is a Dormouse. So that makes him a Peeka-Door, but he just like to think of himself as tan and fuzzy. No one really know how old Alfunz is or even when his birthday is because he was too little to notice when he was born. He does however, make it a point to celebrate his birthday pretty often though.
Alfunz always liked to invent and build things. There wasn't a school to learn it. So he just read everything he could and spends time helping friends who have been around longer and know more than him. HIs first big project was building his adobe cottage at the base of the Alderbarker Tree. Since then he's been busy inventing lots of things for his friends. That’s how he became the Architect of Anything.
You might see some of the things he helped build around the Children’s Hospitals and Clinics here at Sanford. He talks to the nurses and doctors a lot and works with them to build things that help kids feel better.
He's often traveling somewhere in the world—building special projects, visiting with friends and family and taking an adventure to places he's never been before, all just for the fun of it. When Alfunz is on an adventure, his friends write him letters. He love knowing they are thinking of him and loves writing back so they know he's thinking about them too.
When he's at home, he read, play outside, get up to watch the sunrise and work on projects. Alfunz has a pet ladybug named Lola. She likes Hide-and-Seek, and they both enjoy art. She likes to color and he carries his paintbrush everywhere he goes. A quick picture always brings a smile wherever he is.

Children's Miracle Network
Children's Miracle Network Hospitals is celebrating its 30-year anniversary! Since 1983, the organization has raised more than $4.7 billion—most of it $1 at a time—for 170 children’s hospitals across the United States and Canada, which, in turn, use the money where it’s needed the most. These donations have gone to support research and training, purchase equipment, and pay for uncompensated care, all in support of the mission to save and improve the lives of as many children as possible.
Right now there’s a Children’s Miracle Network Hospital working to save the lives of kids in your community. In fact, 62 children enter a Children’s Miracle Network Hospital for treatment every minute — that's one child every second. Some are battling cancer. Some are suffering from a traumatic injury. Others require constant care because they were born too early, or with a genetic disease. Regardless of why the kids are there, 170 Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals always have their doors open. Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals provide comfort, treatment and hope to millions of sick kids. In fact, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals treat one in 10 children in North America each year. These kids aren’t in faraway countries or from opposite sides of the nations—they’re in your community. They may be your own children.
